A Friendly or Hostile World; Which Do You Choose to Live In?
In the realm of wise questions, one in particular has left an indelible mark on my life: "Do you live in a hostile or friendly universe?" This profound inquiry shaped a mantra that I carry with me to this day, a mantra that has been a guiding light through some of the darkest periods of my life.
A Challenge or Opportunity?
I was at a crossroads, facing a decision that felt like stepping into the unknown. It was the single biggest investment I could make – an investment in myself. Fear coursed through my veins, uncertainty loomed large, but deep within, there was an unshakable knowing that this was the path I needed to tread. It was time to make a way where there appeared to be none.
History Repeating
This wasn't the first time I had felt this call. I was transported back to my 17-year-old self, brimming with dreams and courage. At that juncture, I made the decision to leave behind everything and everyone I had ever known on Haida Gwaii. It was a place that had been my entire world up until then, and yet, I was unflinching in my resolve to follow my heart.
A Leap of Faith
The plunge was taken, and the subsequent six months would prove to be one of the most challenging yet joyful periods of my life. In that time, I delved deep into self-discovery, unlocking the secrets of life and embarking on a journey of emotional maturity and healing. It was the beginning of a profound transformation – learning to care for and love myself in ways I had never imagined.
The Unsung Heroes In My Life
Sacrifices were made, and I'm forever grateful to my wife and daughter, who gave up so much so that I could embark on this transformative journey. They missed moments with me, times when my physical presence was at home, but my mind was on the path to healing. Their love and understanding created the space I needed to heal and become the best version of myself.
I hold onto the belief that I live in a friendly universe – this life-saving mantra. Its power, impact, and empowerment have been nothing short of extraordinary.
This mantra has been my anchor, safeguarding me from the storms of stress, anxiety, and debilitating doubt. It provided me with not just strength but a refuge to rest and find solace.
